South Florida has always been a gateway — to Latin America, to global capital, to the sea. Today, we're making it a gateway to space.
We're proud to announce the launch of the Miami Innovation Aerospace Initiative (MIA) — a multi-stakeholder effort designed to activate South Florida's role in the global space economy and adjacent high-growth industries.
Why Miami. Why Now.
The Homestead Spaceport gives South Florida a strategic geographic asset that almost no other metro in America has — an operational launch facility within 30 miles of a world-class international city. Miami already functions as the capital of the Americas for commerce, finance, and culture. The missing ingredient has been a coordinated ecosystem to translate that advantage into aerospace economic output.
What MIA Is Building
MIA is not a single program. It is the foundation for a new economic engine — one that drives job creation, attracts global investment, and positions South Florida as a leader in the next generation of technology, infrastructure, and industry. Our focus areas:
Aerospace and space-adjacent venture development
Workforce pipelines aligned with future industries
Energy and infrastructure required for advanced technologies
Capital formation and investor access
Policy frameworks that enable long-term regional competitiveness
Join Us Tuesday — The Space Gold Rush: Miami
We're kicking off the public launch of MIA at Startup OLÉ Miami '26 — Tuesday, April 21 at 6 PM on the main stage at the James L. Knight Center. The panel, 'The Space Gold Rush: Miami,' brings together aerospace leaders, investors, and policymakers to break down the opportunity and what it takes to make South Florida the launch capital of the Western Hemisphere.
